Regional Planning/Geographic Information System (GIS) Internship

The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC) in Dayton, Ohio has one full-time (30-40 hours per week) Regional Planning/GIS internship position open during the Summer of 2026 (approximately from May 4, 2026 to August 14, 2026).

Internship Description:

The intern will assist the Community and Regional Planning department team with various tasks, including:

  • General Planning and Policy Best Practices Research
  • Special Planning Studies including PLAN4Health and Regional Housing Studies
  • Data Mapping and Analysis, Map Production, and Map Application Development using Geographic Information System (GIS)
  • Data compilation and analysis using the U.S. Census data

Applicants should possess:

knowledge of planning principles and practices; proficiency in using GIS (ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online Mapping Applications); familiarity with research techniques; and skill in the use of various basic software (word processing, databases, spreadsheets, Adobe Creative suites, etc.).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be currently enrolled in a degree (undergraduate or graduate) program in planning, geography, GIS, or related field
  • Currently in the second year toward completing a Bachelor’s degree program.
  • Use of a personal vehicle and a valid driver’s license are required for field work during working hours.
  • Some practical professional experience preferred.
