Public Health Collaboration

As part of the PLAN4Health – Miami Valley Initiative, MVRPC has developed a strong relationship with local public health professionals and agencies. Part of that relationship has been collaborating on a number of projects to offer planning and GIS expertise to public health-oriented initiatives. Completed and ongoing public health and MVRPC collaborations are highlighted below. Please contact Martin Kim, Director of Community and Regional Planning at mkim@mvrpc.org if you are interested in collaborating with MVRPC for your project.

Miami County Public Health HEAL Active Transportation Planning

Miami County Public Health pursued a Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) grant, focused on improving access to active transportation. MVRPC partnered to assist in many project components, such as performing a site visit, analyzing existing conditions, and co-hosting a workshop and open house. The project hub page can be viewed here.

Greene County Public Health HEAL Assistance & Food Access Mapping

Greene County Public Health pursued a Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) grant, focused on safe routes to healthy food in Fairborn, in which MVRPC served on the steering committee, and provided food access mapping for Fairborn. The Food Access Map was later updated to include all of Greene County.

CHA & CHIP Assistance

MVRPC staff served on the steering committee for Community Health Assessments (CHA) and Community Health Improvement Plans (CHIP) for Greene, Miami, and Montgomery Counties, providing place-based planning expertise to people-based health plans and policies.
