The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) provides funding for the Surface Transportation Block Program (STBG). This formula program provides flexible funding to the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) to preserve and improve the conditions and performance of any Federal-aid highway, bridge and tunnel projects on any public road, pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, and transit capital projects. ODOT has allocated a portion of STBG funding to the Regional Transportation Planning Organizations in Ohio. MVRPC estimates that $400,000 will be available per year for the Darke-Preble-Shelby (DPS) RTPO. The RTPO Board of Directors approved the DPS RTPO Capital Program Policies and Procedures on December 5, 2024. The policy provides detailed information on qualifying projects and funding provisions.

Reminder: All roads that are classified as a Major Collector Road (Functional Class 5) or higher can qualify for a potential project - Minor Collector Roads and Local Roads can additionally be considered for active transportation projects (examples are pedestrian/bicycle infrastructure improvements). For this first funding period, all right-of-way for a project must already be owned/controlled by the applicant since this first implementation period is particularly short.
