Senior Planner

The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC) is accepting applications for the position of Senior Planner. MVRPC serves an innovative multi-county region of approximately one million people in the area surrounding Dayton, OH (southwest Ohio). As a Regional Planning Commission (RPC), the agency provides planning services for members and also functions as the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), a designation that provides federal funding for planning, rideshare, purchase of replacement vans and buses, and bridge, roadway, and multiuse trail construction.

The Senior Planner has a significant degree of responsibilities. As part of the Department of Regional Planning team, the Senior Planner leads the preparation of long- and short-term planning and GIS projects. The Senior Planner leads, manages and assists with the updates and completion of the Agency’s regional and local plans.

The job duties include executing, managing, and supporting assigned planning projects by: performing preliminary and best practices research; project design and scoping; data collection, analysis, and visualization; report writing and making presentations to various groups. Other related activities include: providing technical assistance to other departments; responding to requests from the general public for data and information; and attending night meetings that often includes making presentations to inform residents and partner organizations.

The ideal candidate possesses: 1) extensive knowledge of principles and practices of regional and community planning; 2) considerable experience in project design and management; 3) strong research, data analysis, data visualization, graphic design, and writing skills; 4) experience in strategic planning, site planning, and urban design; 5) familiarity with data and information sources, including Census datasets; 6) effective communication skills both with team members and the general public; 7) ability to work with local jurisdictions, other regional stakeholders, and the general public; and 8) proficiency in the use of MS Office, Adobe CS, and GIS.

Qualifications: Master's Degree in planning or related field with a minimum of four (4) years progressively responsible relevant experience in regional and community planning or related; Extensive experiences in project management and/or AICP is a plus.
