Protecting precious resources

Imagine if all your drinking water came from just one single place. Imagine how valuable that source of water would be to you. Imagine if the air you breathed caused you to cough...

You might ask "What has been done to protect these resources?"

MVRPC's Environmental Planning Division works with local communities to ensure our air and waters are protected for future generations.

Air Quality Planning
The Miami Valley region is required by the federal Clean Air Act to have a plan to keep the air clean. MVRPC incorporates air quality issues into planning through several programs and initiatives.
Water Quality Planning
In accordance with the Clean Water Act, MVRPC serves as the Designated Water Quality Planning Agency for the Miami Valley Region. MVRPC has adopted a watershed focus to deal with water resource issues, and groundwater protection continues to be another major focus of the Agency.
Environmental Liability
Environmental laws protect public health and natural resources through limiting air and water pollution, regulating the use of hazardous chemicals, and controlling waste. Under federal and state regulations, local governments can be held liable for environmental violations. Local governments are particularly vulnerable to many types of liability by virtue of their management and operation of solid waste, wastewater, public works, and water supply systems, just to name a few. Parties held liable for environmental violations can face fines, criminal penalties, and litigation. The Environmental Liability webpage provides elected and appointed local government officials with information to better identify and manage their environmental risks.
