Alternate Modes of Transportation

When people in the Miami Valley need to get somewhere, they have many transportation options. MVRPC works to make as many options available and cost-effective to all citizens of the Miami Valley.

Among the modes of transportation available are Transit options, Bikeways and pedestian walkways. MVRPC is also working with local jurisdictions who have shown and interest in making their communities pedestrian friendly with Walkable Communities programs.

Commuters can also take advantage of the Rideshare Program. It's a free computer matching service that links people who want to carpool/ vanpool to work or school.

Passenger Rail is another mode that is being investigated at the State level for its feasibility in Ohio. Currently, passenger rail is not an option for the Region. However, The study titled "The Ohio and Lake Erie Regional Rail Ohio Hub Study" was conducted by the Ohio Rail Development Commission and the draft report was recently released.
