Phase II- Future Landscape Exploration: future Land use Scenario Development and Assessment
The purpose of the second phase of the Going Places initiative is to explore options for the future physical development of the Miami Valley Region. Identifying and building Future Land Use Scenarios, which incoporate the important issues of “How and Where the Region should develop by 2040?” and assessing each scenario's social, economic, and environmental implications are the two major goals of this phase.
As part of the efforts to engage the regional stakeholders in the development process of future land use themes and conceptual future land use scenarios, MVRPC is hosting a series of public workshops throughout the Region between October of 2009 and April of 2010. The purpose of these workshops is to bring people who live and work in the Region together to discuss their visions of how the Region should develop in the future.
The Phase II Stakeholder Engagement Strategy provides a roadmap of how Phase II will be carried out and a general overview of the strategic approach that the Going Places inititaive intends to employ during Phase II.
Several land use themes have been developed using input gathered from the Going Places Steering Committee and Planning Advisory Committee:
- Business as Usual Development
- Infill/Conservation Development
- Asset-Based Development
- Radial Corridor Development
- Unrestricted Development
Each of these themes has several basic characteristics and an associated land use scenario, or vision for how the Region should develop physically according to the theme's characteristics.
At each workshop, participants will be asked to either select one of the above themes, or create a new one. Participants will then be asked to contribute to a brain-storming session on the principles and characteristics of their chosen theme. After this, participants will be asked to complete a mapping exercise, deciding where people and jobs should be located throughout the Region.
The results from both of these exercises will be used in refining each of the themes and their associated land use scenarios.

MVRPC produced promotional materials to improve stakeholder outreach and publicize community workshops including a series of TV ads , posters, news release templates, and one page fyler publicizing the current Phase II efforts.
