Existing Condition Assessment
In July 2007, MVRPC began a 4-year Regional Land Use Planning initiative. This new initiative is to implement a conceptual land use planning process to develop a shared future land use vision, represented by the conceptual region-based growth framework for the Miami Valley Region.
MVRPC, working with regional stakeholders, will follow a 3-Phase process to identify desired future land use patterns that maximize and/or preserve existing resources in the Miami Valley Region.
- Phase I Existing Condition Assessment: Physical and Non-Physical Condition Evaluation (Estimated time: 18 months)
Going Places Phase 1 Executive Summary
The Phase I Executive Summary report is a summation of all of the work completed under the existing conditions assessment phase of Going Places: An Integrated Land Use Vision for the Miami Valley Region . It also presents the results of a comparison between the physical and non-physical assessment portions of Phase I.
Miami Valley Land Use Demand Assessment
The Miami Valley Land Use Demand Assessment, as part of Going Places: An Integrated Land Use Vision for the Miami Valley Region, is an attempt to project future land use demand based on the continuation of existing demographic, economic, and development trends.
Miami Valley Land Development Suitability Assessment
The Miami Valley Land Development Suitability Assessment is the final portion of the physical existing conditions evaluation phase of Going Places An Integrated Land Use Vision for the Miami Valley Region. The main purpose of this assessment is to examine the regional landscape in a comprehensive manner and to identify developable land that is not currently fully developed and/or protected land.
Land Suitability Assessment - Built Land
MVRPC conducted the Miami Valley Land Suitability Assessment – Built Environment Factors as part of the existing conditions assessment phase of Going Places – An Integrated Land Use Vision for the Miami Valley Region. The main purpose of this assessment is to identify locations within the Region that are better suited for physical development than others based on 15 built environment factors, such as airport noise, fire protection services, access to amenities, and retail clusters.
Miami Valley Commercial Development Assessment
The Miami Valley Commercial Development Assessment, as part of Going Places: An Integrated Land Use Vision for the Miami Valley Region, is an attempt to measure the existing condition of commercial development by analyzing the land use and building space inventory and to identify how future development planning might appropriately compliment the needs and resources of the Region.
Miami Valley Industrial Development Assessment
The Miami Valley Industrial Development Assessment, as part of Going Places: An Integrated Land Use Vision for the Miami Valley Region, is an evaluation of the current status of industrial development in the Miami Valley Region and an attempt to gauge what the future may hold for this sector.
Land Suitability Assessment - Natural Land
MVRPC conducted the Miami Valley Land Suitability Assessment Natural Environment Factors as part of the existing conditions assessment phase of Going Places An Integrated Land Use Vision for the Miami Valley Region. The main purpose of this assessment is to identify locations within the Region that are better suited for physical development than others based on 15 natural environment factors, such as soil, slope, vegetation, and hydrology.
Housing Assessment
The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC) conducted the Miami Valley Housing Assessment in order to examine the Region’s housing status as part of “Going Places: An Integrated Land Use Vision for the Miami Valley Region,” MVRPC’s new land use planning initiative. This assessment examines the Region’s housing issues from a wide-ranging perspective, attempting to provide a comprehensive overview of the current housing conditions in the Region.
Open Space Assessment
MVRPC conducted the Miami Valley Open Space Assessment Study to develop a 2005 Open Space GIS database and examine the status of open space in the Region. The study identifies open spaces throughout the Region by facility types and provides regional and county level statistics. Further, the 2005 statistics are compared to the 1993 statistics to assess how the Region has changed over the last 12 years.
