MVRPC Board of Directors endorses Regional Land Use Planning Proposal
Dayton, OH – The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission’s (MVRPC) Board of Directors endorsed the Regional Land Use Planning Proposal presented at its January 4, 2007 meeting.
The proposal, developed by members of the Land Use Committee and staff, outlines an overall approach to a region-based land use planning process, using a diagram illustrating major tasks and work elements that are essential for a successful and meaningful outcome. The process in the proposal also illustrates how regional land use planning interrelates with the regional transportation planning process.
The proposal outlines the process in three phases:
- Phase I – Existing Condition Assessment: Physical and Non-Physical Condition Evaluation (Estimated time: 18 months)
- Phase II – Future Landscape Exploration: Future Land Use Scenario Development and Assessment (Estimated time: 2 years)
- Phase III – Building a Clear and Shared Regional Land Use Framework
(Estimated time: 6 months)The process would be undertaken by the MVRPC staff, with assistance from consultants as appropriate, and would take approximately 4 years to complete.
The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission is a forum and resource where regional partners identify priorities, develop public policy and implement collaborative strategies to improve the quality of life and economic vitality throughout the Miami Valley. MVRPC performs various regional planning activities, including air quality, water quality, transportation, land use, research and GIS. As the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), MVRPC is responsible for transportation planning in Greene, Miami and Montgomery Counties and parts of Warren County.
