Going Places Phase I Executive Summary
The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC) is pleased to announce the release of the Going Places Phase I Executive Summary report.
The Phase I Executive Summary report is a summation of all of the work completed under the existing conditions assessment phase of Going Places: An Integrated Land Use Vision for the Miami Valley Region . It also presents the results of a comparison between the physical and non-physical assessment portions of Phase I.
The report contains summaries of each of the reports completed during Phase I, highlighting the most important information and providing a review of the data analysis and conclusions. It begins with an introductory section which provides a synopsis of the Going Places initiative and introduces the various reports that comprise Phase I. The next section reviews the reports that make up the physical condition assessment portion of Phase I, such as the Miami Valley Land Development Suitability Assessment. The third section is devoted to the non-physical condition assessment portion of Phase I, such as the Miami Valley Housing Assessment and the Miami Valley Commercial Development Assessment. The fourth section provides a comparison of the results of the Miami Valley Land Development Suitability Assessment and the Miami Valley Land Use Demand Assessment, effectively comparing the supply of developable land with a projection of the land needed for future development.

Miami Valley Commercial Development Assessment
The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC) is pleased to announce the release of the Miami Valley Commercial Development Assessment.
The Miami Valley Commercial Development Assessment, as part of Going Places: An Integrated Land Use Vision for the Miami Valley Region, is an attempt to measure the existing condition of commercial development by analyzing the land use and building space inventory and to identify how future development planning might appropriately compliment the needs and resources of the Region.
The analysis is organized into four main sections: a land-based analysis, a building-based analysis, and two market analyses, one for office development and one for retail development. The Assessment also offers a projection of commercial employment to 2040. For this study, both spatial and non-spatial socio-economic data were collected and developed at the parcel, tract, and Traffic Analysis Zone (TAZ) levels and employment data at the county and TAZ levels. The data are examined geographically, graphically, and in tabular form.
For additional information about the Miami Valley Commercial Development Assessment, contact Martin Kim, Director of Regional Planning at (937) 223-6323.

Miami Valley Housing Assessment
The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC) is pleased to announce the release of the Miami Valley Housing Assessment report.
The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC) conducted the Miami Valley Housing Assessment in order to examine the Region's housing status as part of “Going Places: An Integrated Land Use Vision for the Miami Valley Region,” MVRPC's new Regional Land Use Planning initiative. This assessment examines the Region's housing issues from a wide-ranging perspective, attempting to provide a comprehensive overview of the current housing conditions in the Region.
The analysis of housing-related variables focuses on three key areas: regional demographic and economic patterns; housing distribution patterns; and housing affordability. The data were both compiled to the Regional level for tabular and graphic analysis and at the Census Block Group level for spatial analysis and presentation. The Assessment also offers a projection of the housing units required to support the Region's future population. For assessment purposes, the Region is defined as the eight counties in the Dayton Metropolitan Area.

Open Space Assessment
MVRPC conducted the Miami Valley Open Space Assessment Study to develop a 2005 Open Space GIS database and examine the status of open space in the Region. The study identifies open spaces throughout the Region by facility types and provides regional and county level statistics. Further, the 2005 statistics are compared to the 1993 statistics to assess how the Region has changed over the last 12 years.

Miami Valley Land Suitability Assessment – Natural Environment Factors
MVRPC is pleased to announce the release of the Miami Valley Land Suitability Assessment – Natural Environment Factors. The assessment was conducted as part of the existing conditions assessment phase of “Going Places – An Integrated Land Use Vision for the Miami Valley Region.” The main purpose of this assessment is to identify locations within the Region that are better suited for physical development than others based on 15 natural environment factors, such as soil, slope, vegetation, and hydrology.
Tabular, graphic, and spatial analyses of each factor were conducted separately in order to determine their presence and conditions. These analyses provided geographically referenced information about opportunities and constraints for future land development, which were scored, weighted, and combined into a final Natural Environment Suitability Measure.

Miami Valley Land Suitability Assessment – Built Environment Factors
The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC) is pleased to announce the release of the Miami Valley Land Suitability Assessment – Built Environment Factors report.
MVRPC conducted the Miami Valley Land Suitability Assessment – Built Environment Factors as part of the existing conditions assessment phase of Going Places – An Integrated Land Use Vision for the Miami Valley Region. The main purpose of this assessment is to identify locations within the Region that are better suited for physical development than others based on 15 built environment factors, such as airport noise, fire protection services, access to amenities, and retail clusters.
Tabular, graphic, and spatial analyses of each factor were conducted separately in order to determine their presence and conditions. These analyses provided geographically referenced information about opportunities and constraints for future land development, which were scored, weighted, and combined into a Built Environment Residential Suitability Measure and a Built Environment Non-Residential Suitability Measure. These two measures were then used to produce a final Residential and Non-Residential Built Environment Suitability Measure.
