MVRPC staff is involved in many different GIS activities outside of the office. Staff often attend conferences, make presentations, and work with outside groups on GIS activities such as mapping and analysis. MVRPC’s GIS work has also been singled out for awards and mentioned as a good example of a GIS program.
This aerial orthophotography program was conducted for the state previously in 2007-2008. OSIP II was authorized in February 2011 and will take place over a 4 year period (2011-2014). The southwestern Ohio area will be flown in the spring of 2012. This will make digital orthophotos available for the entire area.

In September 2008, MVRPC received two (2) awards in the Map Gallery Competition during the 2008 Ohio Geographic Information Systems ( GIS ) Conference. The Miami Valley Land Suitability Assessment map received the “First Place Award” in the Analytical Map Category. Also, it received the “Best of Show Award” which was presented to the entry that received the highest overall score among all entries for all categories.

MVRPC staff was invited to participate in the National Association of Regional Councils 2007 Executive Directors' Conference in Dayton in October 2007. As part of a session on GIS On-line Special Presentation Session, MVRPC presented information about the MVRPC GIS Online Planning Support System.
In September 2007, MVRPC received the "2007 Best Practices Award" from the Ohio Geographically Referenced Information Program (OGRIP) for its efforts to facilitate better decision-making, to better share planning-related information, and to expand public participation at the regional level through the use of GIS.
