Geographic Information Systems (GIS) at MVRPC

MVRPC has been using GIS since the late 1980s to manage, analyze and visualize various geospatial information of the Miami Valley Region. At MVRPC, GIS is one of the key components of its Planning Support System that provides a vital operating function in conducting regional planning activities. Examples of GIS activities include geospatial database construction and management, technical spatial data analysis, and map generation to facilitate a better decision making process. Further, MVRPC’s GIS program provides a leadership role in the Region by coordinating and implementing various GIS activities to share data, information, knowledge, and technical expertise with local governments and the general public. In 2006, MVRPC updated its GIS capacity with the latest Enterprise GIS technologies and developed an integrated and centralized system of GIS components in order to perform and coordinate planning activities at the regional level more efficiently and effectively

Ohio Statewide Imagery Program (OSIP)

This aerial orthophotography program was conducted for the state previously in 2007-2008. OSIP II was authorized in February 2011 and will take place over a 4 year period (2011-2014). The southwestern Ohio area will be flown in the spring of 2012. This will make digital orthophotos available for the entire area.
