first Suburbs of the Dayton Region

The First Suburbs Consortium is the largest government-led advocacy organization in the country working to revitalize mature, developed communities and raise public and political awareness of the problems and inequities associated with urban sprawl and urban disinvestment.

MVRPC recently hosted a meeting of the First Suburbs of the Dayton Region. Participating suburbs included Centerville, Clayton, Englewood, Huber Heights, Kettering, Miamisburg, Moraine, Oakwood, Riverside, Trotwood, Vandalia, & West Carrollton. Robert Puentes of the Brookings Institute made a presentation entitled America’s First Suburbs:A Policy Agenda for Older Suburbs in Transition (Adobe Acrobat Reader:3.16 MB). Kimberly Gibson of Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission presented information on report recently published by the Ohio First Suburbs Consortium. The report, entitled Ohio's First Suburbs: Rethinking Investment Strategies for a More Competitive Ohio (Adobe Acrobat Reader:2.2 MB) advises policy makers and elected officials to focus on strategies to allow older Ohio suburbs to re-invent themselves back into competitive places.
